Cleaning the bowel or colon hydrotherapy is believed to be one way to detoxify or get rid of toxins in the body. Although quite popular, but experts say there is no scientific evidence these therapies could be useful. Even if done carelessly can be dangerous.
Intestinal washing therapy is generally done by pouring water into the large intestine or colon. The doctor will insert a speculum shaped instrument through the rectum so that water can get to the colon. Later the water will clean the remnants of food products of digestion are still left in the intestines.
Researchers from Georgetown University to do an analysis of 20 studies on colon therapy wash and found very little evidence on the benefits of this therapy. In fact, some research indicates the possible side effects of these therapies such as abdominal cramps, flatulence, vomiting, electrolyte imbalance, and kidney failure.
There are serious side effects that can occur in patients with intestinal washing therapy either do it at home or at the spa. In addition, the product of washing the intestine in the form of laxatives, drink tea, powder and capsules, the benefits are not found.
