Cholesterol has become a scourge for many people because the cause of many dangerous diseases like heart disease and stroke. New research suggests that selenium supplements can fight cholesterol. Really?

A new British study revealed that daily doses of the antioxidant selenium can not be used to change the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL), but may actually be able to help raise levels of good cholesterol (HDL).

“The problem is that there are many studies that have examined blood cholesterol and have found a relation with selenium,” said Margaret P. Rayman, a professor of nutritional medicine at the University of Surrey in Guildford, England, as reported from Epharmapedia.

These findings come from examinations for 6 months on the effects of various doses of supplements on cholesterol levels of healthy people in the UK.
